The San Mateo County School Boards Association (SMCSBA) recognized South San Francisco Unified School District (SSFUSD) in the form of Kent Awards in the category of "Innovations in Distance Learning" for the 2020-21 school year.
Specifically, they are highlighting the efforts of staff at South San Francisco High, El Camino High, Parkway Heights Middle School, Spruce Elementary, and Los Cerritos Elementary to provide social, emotional, and academic support to students during the pandemic.
South San Francisco High School kept students on track with home visits, while El Camino High School organized a virtual edition of their annual fall concert.
Meanwhile, Spruce Elementary found new ways to deliver its monthly Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) program, and Los Cerritos Elementary used small cohorts to keep students reading at grade level.
Finally, Parkway Heights Middle School instituted Wellness Wednesdays to support students socially and emotionally.
