Welcome Letter from the Interim Principal
Hello Los Cerritos families!
Your superintendent, Dr. Moore, has asked if I would be willing to serve as your interim principal. I, of course, said I would be honored. I would like to take a few moments to introduce myself so that when you see me on campus, you’ll be able to know a bit about me.
I spent the last 14 years as a principal in three different districts (Ravenswood, Belmont-Redwood Shores and Brisbane) prior to retiring in June of 2022. Last April, I served as interim principal at Junipero Serra Elementary which is how I became acquainted with SSFUSD. I had an amazing time at JS and am certain that my time at Los Cerritos will be equally as enjoyable. In addition to being a principal, I was also a teacher for 16 years. While I have been a principal for just about the same amount of time as a teacher, I really think of myself as a kindergarten teacher because that’s where I spent a large portion of my career.
Since my retirement, I’ve spent my time traveling with my husband, playing with my puppy, reading a lot, exploring restaurants, and getting out to the coast as often as possible (I grew up in Hawai’i so I love the ocean). My husband and I have two children (Kelsey is 26 and Steven is 19) so I also spend my time with my kids as often as possible. I am also on Belmont’s City Council. While retirement is wonderful, when Dr. Moore asked if I’d be willing to step in as your interim principal, I jumped at the chance because I do miss being on campuses with children.
In my time here on your campus, I’ll look forward to connecting with you all and helping Los Cerritos continue to be a wonderful place for children to learn and grow. I plan on spending lots of time listening to staff and to parents to understand concerns so that together we can strategize next best steps. I’ll also be out at the curb in the mornings greeting children, on the yard during recesses and lunch, visiting classrooms, and supporting students.
