Halloween Returns to SSFUSD

Elementary schools across South San Francisco Unified School District (SSFUSD) took part in full-fledged Halloween celebrations for the first time since 2019.

Skyline Elementary organized a trunk-or treat tailgate event where families decorated their cars and doled out candy to eager students from their car trunks.

“It’s wonderful. It’s my second year as a principal, and this is my first event I’ve been able to do where the community’s all been able to come together,” said Skyline Elementary Principal Luann Daniel. “Everybody’s happy. . .The kids are super excited. . .They’re having a great time.”

Meanwhile, Junipero Serra Elementary students decorated the stanchions populating the school’s open-air courtyard and then voted on which one they liked best.

According to Junipero Serra Elementary Principal Teresa Sampayan, this tradition has existed at the school for a long time, at least 15 years.

“It’s just a feeling of pride, of belonging,” said Sampayan. “It’s been a tradition to decorate the poles to show their [children’s] creativity.”

Finally, Los Cerritos Elementary organized a Halloween dance and parade, while Sunshine Gardens Elementary opted for the traditional Halloween costume parade.
